FS 2nd Sem: Final Demonstratioon Observation


Last March 2, 2010, I went to DESES (Don Emilio Salumbides Elememtary School) to witness and have my observation on the final teaching demonstration of the fourth year students. I observed the teaching demonstration of Ms. Jinky Orgeta, in the room of Mrs. Wilhelmina Bobier, a grade 2 teacher. Ms. Orgeta's lesson was Mathematics. She discussed about how to tell the number square units covering in a given area. Where by she have the objectives that in the end of the lesson, the pupils will be able to tell the number of square in an area; count the square in a given area; and actively participate in the group activity. She used flash cards, cut outs figures, picture puzzle and a big cube.

On her demonstration, Ms. Orgeta served as facilitator of learning to her pupils. She prepared actinities that will compliment her lesson. The lesson flow by its sequence. She used flash cards for the drill activity, where in the word area, length, square, width, and unit were written. Using the flash cards with those words the pupilsabled to exercised their reading skills and familiarized on the teminologies that will be use on their lesson. After the drill they had their review and checking of the assignment. The next activity, Ms. Orgeta grouped her pupils into 3. She use a picture puzzle as her motivational material. By this activity, the the pupils are motivated to complete the picture puzzle, because of curiosity what picture is being drawn in the puzzle. She also used a big cube as her instructional material for the application of the lesson. She used all of her materials effectively to the lesson. The instructional materials she use, helped and facilitate learningfor the pupils. It also help the teachar to deliver the lesson easily.

For me, I think Ms. Orgeta used her devices effectiovely and wisely. That is why she got an excellent grade for her teaching demonstration. Her instructional devices really compliment her lesson. It is true that the first visual aids that a teacher will use is her face. But face as a visual is not enough to deliver the lesson effectively. We need to use instructional materials that will help us to be more effective. And in Ms. Orgeta's lesson, I observed that she both use her charm and devices wisely and effectively.

FS 2nd Sem : 2nd day observation experience


On my next day of observation, its Thursday afternoon, January 28, 2010. Mrs. flores and her pupils were having a review on their previous lessons.
On Mathematics, Mrs. Flores flash cards asher tool on reviewing her pupils. The flash cards shows numbers with Mathematical procedures that the pupils will answered it without the use of pens and papers. She call it Mental math.
Their next subject is Makabayan, but before they begin. Mrs. Flores asked her pupils to stand-up and do some stretching, to refreshed their minds.The pupils were now ready to have their next subject.
Mrs. Flores set an activity using cardboard written the names of famous Filipino. In this activity, the pupils tell something about the famous Filipino written on the cardboard and their contributions. The pupils were given the cardboard individually. And everybody participated on the activity.
My observation is, using instructional materials like what Mrs. Flores used. She used cardboard and flash cards, a traditional or low-tech instructional material, that helps her to deliver the knowledge to her pupils. And so the teaching is more easier and it help the teacher to explain and discuss their lesson clearly. And this instructional materials also help the pupils to understand the lesson. She also used an out of the box technique to energized her pupils. This technique helped her to maintain the the alertness and activeness of her pupils. It serve as an ice-breaker.
On my observation I see a lot of strategies and techniques that may help to be an effective teacher.The use of Educational Technology that is appropriate and relevance to my lesson and compliments my objective really help to improve the teaching and learning process. And I think with the combination of some strategies and techniques the teaching and learning process will take place.

FS 2nd Sem: 1st day observation experience


January 26, 2010, its was Tuesday afternoon when i started my observation at DESES (Don Emilio Salumbides Elementary School). I was assigned to Mrs. Carmelita B. Flores, she is handling grade two SPED. they have two subjects in the afternoon, the Mathematics and Makabayan.

Based on my observation on the subject Mathematics. Mrs. Flores serve as the source of knowledge for her pupils. She first introduce the process of division and taught her pupils how its done. She use the chalkboard as her instructional device in demonstrating the lesson. Her pupils were listening. She wrote a set of examples to the chalkboard to be answered by her pupils. After having the examples, Mrs. Flores gave an exercises about the lesson to evaluate her pupils. Mrs. Flores asked me to checked the exercises done by her pupils. And Iwas amazed, because most of the class got a perfect score. Maybe because Mrs Flores explained and demonstrated the lesson clearly with a big help from her instructional device, the chalkboard. The chalkboard serves as her tool to demonstrate her lesson clearly.
